Steel Building Assembly – Estimated Installation Costs
The prices below reflect estimates on what a good handyman will charge you for the following building kit installations. Absolute Steel is a materials supplier only – we do not manage or perform installations. Pricing here is just for your reference. Note that prices will vary quite a bit depending on your location, your lot layout, availability of local labor, licensed contractor vs. unlicensed handyman, etc.
We have not estimated all sizes but do list some common ones. Not all handymen are created equal – do your due diligence and find the right one you can build a relationship with.

Although these are our own local rates, and prices vary from place to place, at different times of year and so forth, these numbers should still give you a good estimate of what you can expect in your own locale.
If you are completely inexperienced or for whatever reason do not want to erect your steel building kit by yourself or with the help of a good handyman, you should consider getting installation estimates from a licensed and bonded contractor who enjoys a good reputation.
Building contractors and handymen in your area should also be able to provide you with accurate estimates, based on your address, site conditions, exact building size, etc. We recommend you obtain a quote in writing before authorizing work to begin.
Installation Estimates for Doors and Other Accessories
Installation of Roll-Up Style Door
- $4.50 per square foot of door.
- Example: 16′ x 7′ roll-up door = 252 sq. ft. x $4.50 = $504
- For extra-high garage doors (greater than ten feet in height) the figure should be $5.00 per square foot.
Installation of Sectional Style (Overhead Track) Door
- Though prices for this type of door vary considerably, $4.50 per square foot is a good baseline for estimation.
Installation of Pedestrian Doors
- For most common 36″ x 80″ metal doors, $140.
Installation of Windows
- For windows 33″ x 36″ or less, $100.
- Larger windows can be estimated at $5.00 per square foot. For example, installation of a 48″ x 72″ window would be $120.
- These figures reflect installation of standard dual-panel windows, as sold at most home and building suppliers.

CARPORTS, CANOPIES, COVERS
The prices below reflect estimates on what a good handyman will charge you for the following carport and canopy installations. We have not estimated all sizes but do list some common ones. Not all handymen are created equal – do your due diligence and find the right one you can build a relationship with.
We can mail or email you a detailed set of carport installation instructions to show your contractor so he can give you an accurate labor bid before you order your carport.
We design our carport kits for do-it-yourselfers, and as you will see in the instructions they are pretty simple to assemble. Beware of the know-it-all contractor that doesn’t think he needs an instruction manual to install a carport. You would be better off hiring your next door neighbors’ kid to help you, the installation is that easy.

Carport kit options, and estimated installation costs:
Length Extensions:
- $20.00 per foot
- Example: Standard 20W X 20L = $1000. Adding an additional 5 feet in length to that would be a 20 X 25 and would cost about $1100 to install.
Height Extensions:
- $40.00 per foot.
- Example: Standard 20 X 20 with 7’6″ eave is $1000. 20 X 20 raised to 9’6″ eave would be $1080.00. 20 X 20 with 11’6″ eave would be $1160.
Added Side Panels:
- $1.20 per linear foot of panel.
Rear Enclosures:
- $20.00 per foot on a standard height with $2.50 added for each additional foot higher.
